That wild blue flower

 Gentiana scabra, the Japanese gentian.
Laitlum canyon, Meghalaya in the backdrop.

Oh why don't you see
My unfading love for thee,
vast and deep as the canyon,
and beyond everything
it could be!

I have so much to say,
Yet time is hard to find.
I wonder if it would suffice
with a poem that rhymes.

For I imagined our love will be,
Like the wild blue flower
Blooming unseen in the valley,
Hidden under the bower,
against all odds,
in abundance and glory.

Nevertheless it refused to be,
As uncaring and free as the
Winds and the sea.

And so I leave behind,
some thoughts well-defined,
some feelings unwind,
seeking that peace of mind.

Words said unsaid,
and letting go just fine.
Hoping in another lifetime,
you could be mine!

Fuchsia thy name

What's fuchsia you ask-
Is it the colour or the flower?
Its none; perhaps its a reminder
of those happy days
when I was just a kid
Playing around in my frilly frocks
Blue, yellow and fuchsia coloured.

Perhaps its that dream
Something I saw in my mind's eye
The one where I painted the town
Fuchsia, in merriment
And danced to the sound of
Ringing bells.

Perhaps it that was song
Playing in my head all day long
Praising the fucshia
The one in my garden
Blooming in its glory.

Or perhaps it is none of these.
Perhaps it was the spur of that moment.
Leaving me with the question-
Why Fuchsia?

A kitten’s wish

(Art by my friend Mrigakhi Bora. Original creation by artist Vimal Chandran)

Why does the human live in a box like house?
Watching the idiot box all day
Only peeping out once or twice
To adjust the antenna signal in the way.

I am a little kitten, I stay outdoors all day
I dream of yummy things
And wish to lick a fishbone clean
Found in the roadside bin.

I wonder if the big fishes of the ocean
Would ever want to fly, like I do
Then I would meet them in the sky
And twirl gracefully in my rainbow tutu.

For now I could play with the human
Only if it would come out and
Give me some milk and candies,
Sit in the lush green grass
And watch the clouds dancing to
The tune of the blowing wind.
Oh what a wonderful day that would be!

Once upon a December evening

The new, yet old

Perhaps 2020 was this dark side of the world and yet we hustled through; meeting the stronger side of ourselves, building up our courage and determination to survive. For we knew - the struggle to survive is not a new game.

Sending good vibes to everyone for this maze -2021 ✨✨🧚🏼‍♀️✨✨

Sushi dreams

Last night I had
Salmon Sake and Crab Sushi, so amazing,
At a restaurant that served it
For a dollar a piece.
Each piece so huge
A plate could fill one at a time
But never enough to fill my tummy.

Soft tender salmon flesh
With a strong flavor of wasabi
On the side, and the sushi
Waiting to be gulped down
In delight.
I put a piece between the chopsticks
And took a bite instead of chewing it whole
Oh, what a nom-nom!!

Two sushi rolls, one sake
And a happy tummy later,
I wake up smiling only to find
It was in a dream
That I had the food
I had been wishing for these days!!

This silence around us

Staying indoors, locked away from the world, all of us are going through a time we never thought could happen. Its a time we would remember forever. And I wanted to keep a reminder of this time, hence ended up writing this piece. In these tough times, may all be safe and this ends soon.

Rainbow Paradise

She lived in her world
A kaleidoscopic landscsape;
Iridescent colors illuminating
Every inch of her way.

She’s a ball of fire,
Or sometimes a flower full of fragrance.
She can bestow upon you
A streak of deadliness or the
Blossom you crave.

Magic it is
That emanates from her soul,
Quiet and slow it takes
To works its charm.

Away from the crowd
In a distant dream of something unknown.
She lived in her own sweet little home called
”Rainbow paradise”.

Winter nostalgia

I wish for the cold winter nights
When I was a child,
Book in hand and wrapped in blanket
Dozing off in between,
Lulled by the coziness.

Cold icy winds, teeth chattering
As I blow warm breath into the air
And watch it melt into nothingness.
Oh icy winters at home
I miss you, each passing year.

I miss watching the wide fields at night
Engulfed in blankets of white fog
Screening the view beyond
And everything around.
Is there a ghost amidst the obscureness
Or the misty nightfall played
A scene of mystery
To scare me!

I miss my winter gloves,
The home knit sweaters and woollen socks;
Colourful muffler and a knitted cap
All around my head
Ruffling my hair.
Doubly protected in every lining of cloth,
The winter chill reminds me
Of the cheer of staying indoors
A blazing evening fire,
Water boiling in the kettle;
All things warm and comforting.

Shining light through the misty mornings,
Icy cold water to the touch;
Basking in the winter sun
After a very reluctant bath.

Memories and memories
Of fond winter holidays
When the atmosphere was much colder
And the fun of winter shivers
Cast a happy spell, amidst all.

Dreamy mind and soul

I meant not to be pretty
Just a little hasty
Fleeting from flower to flower
Sniffing for that familiar fragrance;
One that hits the right note
One that the soul seeks.

I dream often
And often I dream,
Of funny things and
Cones of Ice cream,
Or that rainbow across the sky
And the bird flying by;
Hopes and desires
Writ in large bold letters.

Sometimes it makes no sense
And then I let it be.
Fragments of thoughts and
The infinities within it,
Color up that canvas
Of my dreamy mind and soul.

Sunset, hopes and sadness

Sunsets are hope for
Another day of sunrise in the fields,
For the birds to go back to their nests,
For seekers to find their destination,
For lovers to spend a night together.

Why is it then sunset also brings in
Some sadness.
Sad for another day gone by,
Sad for not doing things as planned,
Sad for not saying things harboured in the heart,
Sad for it brings another day closer to existence.
